Lights Out for Gamblers: Hubballi-Dharwad Police Make 320 Arrests involved in Gambling

Hubballi-Dharwad Police were on high alert during the Deepavali festival, targeting gambling activities that often surge during the celebration. A total of 320 individuals were apprehended in connection with illegal gambling in the twin cities.

Throughout the festive period, the police vigilantly monitored and took action against those engaged in gambling, a popular activity during Deepavali, especially involving card games. The crackdown resulted in the registration of 47 cases, with a substantial sum of Rs 6.49 lakh seized from the offenders.

Specifically, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police made significant arrests, detaining 53 individuals and registering four cases—one each in Dharwad Town, Vidyangar, Keshwapur, and Dharwad Sub Urban station. The CCB police successfully recovered Rs 2.28 lakh during their operations.

The Hubballi North sub-division police played a pivotal role in curbing gambling activities, registering a total of 23 cases. Notable arrests were made in collaboration with Gokul Road police, Vidyanagar police, APMC/Navanagar police, Keshwapur police, and Sub Urban police. A total of 147 individuals were arrested, and Rs 1.84 lakh was confiscated from them.

Hubballi South sub-division police also actively participated in the crackdown, registering 10 cases in various police station limits, including Ghantikeri, Hubballi Town PS, Bendigeri, Old Hubballi, and Kasabapet. In these operations, 60 individuals were apprehended, and Rs 68,070 in cash was seized.

The Dharwad Sub-division police, not to be outdone, made six arrests related to gambling, registering 10 cases and recovering Rs 1.69 lakh from the offenders.
